ĭuntemann has been blogging since 1998, and claims independent invention of the concept, based on an idea from one of his staff. He has stated that he will continue to publish all his future material himself. Tom Easton wrote in Analog: “Jeff Duntemann returns with an ambitious, polished tale of intrigue, nanotechnology, and something that sounds a lot like mysticism.This one has a decent chance of ending up on award ballots.” Since 2007, Duntemann has published two story collections and six novels under his own imprint, Copperwood Press. Having set fiction aside in the mid-1980s, Duntemann returned to the field in 2005 with his first novel, The Cunning Blood (ISFiC Press, Deerfield, IL). Since then he has written for Bantam Computer Books, John Wiley & Sons, and his own publishing companies, The Coriolis Group and Paraglyph Press. He continued writing books for Scott Foresman until the company was acquired by Harper Collins in 1989 and cancelled its computer trade line. In 1983, Duntemann sold his first book, a textbook on programming in the Pascal language, to Scott Foresman. When the personal computer industry spawned numerous technical journals in the mid-1970s, he began to write for them as well. Encouraged by his success in fiction, Duntemann began writing technical articles for amateur radio magazines. He sold his first story that fall, to Harry Harrison's hardcover anthology Nova 4. Writing CareerĮncouraged by his professors at DePaul to pursue fiction writing, Duntemann attended the Clarion Workshop for science fiction and fantasy writers in summer, 1973. Having retired from technical editing in 2015, Duntemann moved with his wife to Phoenix, Arizona, where he blogs and writes fiction. He has been married to physical therapist Carol Ostruska since 1976. Self-taught in computing and electronics, he worked as a technical representative for Xerox Corporation and later as a programmer at the Xerox campus in Webster, NY. He attended Illinois Institute of Technology and later DePaul University, earning a B.A. Jeff Duntemann was born and educated in Chicago, Illinois.
